OK, I was wrong. And when I’m wrong, I say I’m wrong, not unlike the great Jake Houseman when he realised it wasn’t Johnny who got Penny in trouble (duh, Jake)*. Because despite my assertion on my latest ‘happy list‘ that you of course cannot possibly live in a tiny house if you have babies, there are people that ACTUALLY ARE LIVING IN TINY HOUSES WITH BABIES, and I am here for it.
Not in the way that I’d have the guts to do it myself, you understand, but still. It’s a pretty cool way to live.
Here are some families that are doing (/did) it:
Shedsistance (also feature pic up top) adapted their tiny home to be baby friendly, and I swear that baby proofing is more solid than what we have in our full sized house.
This tiny house is home to a baby AND a dog.
And I love these guys, they’re so happy and inspiring with their beautiful tiny home ♡
(There are more examples out there, but these were my favourites. Feel free to share your own!)
In my wildest of fantasies, I am right there in the tiny home community, my funky little house on wheels planted somewhere warm with a view overlooking the water and the mountains, where my small boys can roam and be at one with nature (whilst always within sight and always in a casual life vest due to the aforementioned proximity to water) as I sip still-hot tea and smile serenely into the view, my husband at his tiny yet perfectly equipped desk doing his big job with no outside stressors accessible to any of us. In reality, we are considering sizing up next time we move, probably to a new build, which couldn’t be further from this little dream I’m enacting in my head if it tried.
But still, a tiny home… Maybe a good retirement plan?
PS. Reading My Tea Leave’s ‘Life In A Tiny Apartment’ series could come in handy if you do consider packing in the mortgage life for tiny home living. Lots of great tips for living small, with some specifically aimed at tiny living with children in tow ♡
*A Dirty Dancing reference… But you knew that already.
