On Tuesday, we went for a 4D scan. We had one with our first, and always knew it was one of the things we wanted to do again in subsequent pregnancies – even more so, this time, in light of how much the experience has been dominated by the intricacies (/total cock ups, at times) of maternity care in a pandemic. Speaking of which, it was all very safely done, etc. Which is obviously important. But more important is that we GOT TO SEE OUR BABY, AND HE IS BEAUTIFUL! Beautiful, the absolute spit of his brother, ‘100% a boy, ‘and the cutest little eye rubber mama ever did see. I am 27+6 now, and the countdown is well and truly on. We can’t wait to meet you Baby Jam Jam, we love you so much already* ♡
*For the sake of documentation, little one, Grandad’s reaction to seeing your face for the first time was ‘when does he grow eyes then?’ You have eyes! They’re just closed… Also, the family have begun referring to you as either ‘Billy,’ or ‘Barney.’ I can confirm neither will be your name.
And now, a short life update, and a ‘currently,’ because it’s nice to have a chat, and honestly how often have any of us had a chance to do that since March 2020?
This past week or so has been up and down. Baby JJ is now big enough that he hits hard enough to scare his dad when going in for a casual tummy touch, and it’s a brilliant feeling. From seeing faint, small movements from the outside for the first time last week to seeing him ripple my stomach like he’s riding a rollercoaster is such a massive change, and a fascinating one. Perhaps as a result of this change, perhaps as a result of lockdown 3.0 being the most tedious period of time in living history, I have been absolutely wiped out all week. Honestly, exhausted all day long, and so lethargic that even when I have a short block of time to myself – time I’d usually be up and at’um – I instead sit staring at reality TV and thinking ‘I am so drained.’ Luckily, my toddler is good at bringing my energy reserves to the fore. So at least we’re getting some quality playtime achieved, if nothing more 🤷
Currently…
Watching: Four In A Bed (Amazon Prime) Best Leftovers Ever (Netflix)
Reading: Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi
Hearing: Nursery Rhymes, mostly. Worth it to watch the toddler bust out his many dance moves
Burning: ‘Brewster’ coffee candle by & Chai
Eating: Everything. Absolutely everything.
Drinking: Decaff Yorkshire Tea. The BEST decaff there is (I’ve tried many)
Loving: Mama and little one time. And stomach shaking movements from the even littler one.
Buying: Bits to prepare for life with two – a thermal vacuum seal flask (from Costa, I love it – available in store), a new sling (this one!), personalised pouches to sit inside the main change bag and fill with stuff for myself and the older baba. The list goes on…
How are you?
I hope January in a lockdown hasn’t been too awful so far. There are brighter days coming! (There have to be… ) xx
